Susan Merritt, graphic designer, design researcher and writer, is professor emeritus at San Diego State University where she teaches typography and graphic design history. Merritt completed post-graduate study at the Basel School of Design in 1976 and earned an MA in Design Research, Writing and Criticism from the School of Visual Arts in 2015. She co-authored The Web Design WOW! Book (Peachpit Press,1998) and wrote the teaching manual that accompanied the fourth edition of Meggs’ History of Graphic Design (Wiley, 2006). She and husband Calvin Woo co-founded Design Innovation Institute, a nonprofit that fosters experimentation and collaboration between traditional and non-traditional areas of design.
